As much as we’d like to make it to the spa for a professional treatment once or even twice a week, let’s face it– we don’t always have the time (or the money!) to go to the spa. Fortunately, there are many ways to create your own spa day at home. With just a few at-home products and even some DIY treatment recipes, you can have a relaxing day at home that rivals the pampering you get at a professional spa– and on a budget, too!
Take a look at some of our favorite tips and treatments so that you can have a professional-level spa day in your very own home:
Ambiance. Set the mood of your spa day by taking the time to set up your space. Declutter mess from your spa area and gather all your supplies into one location. Dim your lighting or set some candles for a soft, relaxing glow, and even add some mood music to add to the spa experience. You can likely find some playlists on Spotify, Apple Music, or your Alexa.
Plan. Make a plan for your spa day so you know what you’re doing, what you’ll need, and when you’re doing it. For example, if you’re planning on taking a relaxing bubble bath, you’ll want to apply a hair or face mask before getting in the bathtub. Pedicures or manicures should come after a bath, so water doesn’t ruin fresh nails, but remove any old polish and cut and file your nails before a bath or shower. This is also a great time to decide on what spa services you need or want. If your skin is looking rough or dry, you may want to choose something exfoliating to get rid of dead skin cells. Creams and moisturizers should come last.
Treatments. Speaking of treatments, decide what kind of treatments you’ll want to do during your spa day! Though you can certainly buy the products you need, like face masks, at a local beauty store, we recommend DIY-ing some treatment recipes, including:
Face Masks: Believe it or not, there are plenty of face masks recipes you can make at home with everyday grocery and pantry items that are fantastic for your skin. Try a Honey Oatmeal Face Mask to add extra moisture to your skin or a Turmeric Clay Mask for its anti-inflammatory properties. And this Cleansing Charcoal Face Mask is fantastic for exfoliating!
Hair Masks: Trust us– you don’t need to buy a hair mask to improve your hair texture! This Lavender Coconut Oil Treatment will nourish and improve your hair no matter its current state. If your scalp needs a little TLC, this Apple Cider Vinegar Scalp Scrub is perfect. And don’t forget to end with this Lemon Deep Conditioner!
Body Treatments: Body treatments are the perfect time to try out a DIY recipe. This Lemon Honey Foot Scrub is great for when you need to moisturize and soak your feet after a long day. A Milk and Honey Sugar Scrub is perfect for your body if it needs some extra exfoliation and moisture.
Supplies. Now that your plan is in place and you’ve decided on your treatments, gather all your supplies. This includes all of the ingredients you need for your DIY treatment recipes and all of the tools you need to make and apply them. You can also pick out a comfortable outfit to be at your most relaxed when you’re doing all your treatments.
